Pennisetum orientale ‘Karley Rose’ was named after the founder’s daughter, granting this grass a female status. She is well known for her small, clumping form and striking, upright, arching, rose pink plumes from mid-summer to late fall. She is an oriental fountain grass, second to none, and a knockout in any garden space. Foliage is dark green and maintains colour all season long. She is a super hardy, zone 5 grass that grows fast and becomes drought tolerant as she gets established. True to her smaller form ‘Karley Rose’ grows about 75-90 cm (30-35 in) tall and 60-90 cm (25-35 in) wide. This perennial grass is easy to manage and will not disappoint.
Find a nice sunny spot with well drained soil to plant her as too much moisture could cause her roots to rot. There is a wide range of possibilities for ‘Karley Rose’; use her as a border, cut flower or focal point, in mass plantings or even in a container. Be sure to cut her back in spring before new growth appears to maximize her full potential.
